While he continues to aggressively pitch himself as the perfect DCU Batman, 1923 star Brandon Sklenar will get the chance to show off his action hero prowess in a new thriller that sounds perfect for Taylor Sheridan and Yellowstone fans. After smaller roles in the likes of Vice, Midway, and Westworld, Brandon Sklenar has seen his star rise rapidly since playing Spencer Dutton in the Yellowstone prequel series, 1923. Now, he’s teaming up with another Yellowstone alum for what sounds like a gripping modern Western thriller.
According to Deadline, Sklenar will take the lead in The Rescue, which also finds Yellowstone star Hassie Harrison in a key role. Coming courtesy of Paramount, The Rescue is directed by Potsy Ponciroli, who is best known for the 2021 Western action movie Old Henry and the upcoming action thriller Motor City starring Reacher’s Alan Ritchson. If that were not already enough to entice you, The Rescue has been written by Young Guns scribe John Fusco.
The plan is to begin filming The Rescue at the start of next year, with the movie having been “high priority going back to when Skydance was developing prior to the Skydance-Paramount merger and marks one of the first films the new regime has greenlit.”
While wider plot details remain under wraps at present, The Rescue is being described as “a modern day Western” which follows a rodeo cowboy whose skills are put to the test “outside the arena.” All of which sounds like an intriguing blend of neo-Western sensibilities with modern day action thrills, and should result in the perfect project for Taylor Sheridan fans.
Both Brandon Sklenar & Hassie Harrison Have Plenty of Action Thriller Fare in the Pipeline

Alongside The Rescue, both Brandon Sklenar and Hassie Harrison have more action thriller fare in the pipeline. Harrison, who featured in Yellowstone as hired ranch hand Laramie, and who recently starred alongside Jai Courtney in the acclaimed horror movie Dangerous Animals earlier this year, will next star in Raven alongside an all-star cast that includes Anthony Mackie, Pablo Schreiber, Ben Foster, and Ron Livingston.
Directed by Tom Sierchio Raven boasts all the crowd-pleasing elements of a no-nonsense action thriller and follows a former Detroit cop turned hitman who is ready to walk away from a life of violence. But, as is so often the case, walking away kick starts violent retribution.
Brandon Sklenar, meanwhile, who can currently be seen starring alongside Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried in the R-rated thriller The Housemaid, will reunite with writer Taylor Sheridan for director Ben Richardson’s (1923, Those Who Wish Me Dead) upcoming action thriller, F.A.S.T. Due for release on April 23, 2027, F.A.S.T. “concerns a former special forces commando, down on his luck after he returns Stateside, who is tapped by the DEA to lead a black op strike team against CIA-protected drug dealers in his town,” as per the official synopsis. Plus, there’s the ongoing Batman rumors…
