Hugh Jackman’s new musical movie, Song Sung Blue, has set a Rotten Tomatoes record. After returning as Logan last year in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Deadpool and Wolverine, the Australian actor steps back into singing, where he and Kate Hudson portray the Sardina couple who create a Neil Diamond tribute band, Lightning and Thunder.
Before the movie’s release, reviews of Song Sung Blue were generally positive, leading to a notable 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, audiences are finally getting a taste of the musical spirit of Neil Diamond, and it’s a good sign.
Based on over 100 verified ratings, the audience score for Song Sung Blue is currently at a near-perfect 97%. While the score will likely fluctuate as more people see the film during the holidays, it’s currently Jackman’s highest-rated movie with audiences. The previous record-holder was none other than Deadpool and Wolverine, which had a 94% audience score.

Critics and audiences agree that Craig Brewer's Song Sung Blue is a feel-good movie that showcases a couple enduring hardship, yet still overcoming their obstacles. Even if it may not be the most flawless biopic, reviewers still found it entertaining thanks to the charismatic performances of Hudson and Jackman and the nicely executed love story.
ScreenRant's Alex Harrison awarded the new Jackman-starring movie 7 out of 10 stars, highlighting some of the shortcomings, such as the depiction of the couple's hardship not being totally effective, and finding some of the direction a little artificial. However, he praises the film for still being entertaining, especially since "Jackman and Hudson create a giddiness between them that radiates through the frame. "
Since its release, there have been conversations about Song Sung Blue potentially becoming an awards contender, especially for the stars' performances. It's been a dark horse in the race, although Hudson was able to nab a nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes.
While Song Sung Blue was Jackman's only new release in the last year and a half, the Marvel star is expected to have a few upcoming projects in 2026. That includes a whodunit movie, The Sheep Detectives, and the thriller The Death of Robin Hood. On the other hand, Hudson will reprise her role as Isla Gordon in Netflix's Running Point for season 2.
Song Sung Blue is now playing in theaters.
