Manchester United have been urged to make a move for Robert Lewandowski this summer by former striker Giuseppe Rossi.
The 37-year-old will officially be a free agent next month after running down his Barcelona contract.
Lewandowski will depart the Camp Nou after four years, having joined Barca from Bayern Munich in 2022.
One of Europe’s deadliest strikers in the 21st century, the Pole has only cemented his reputation in Spain.
He leaves Barca having scored 120 goals in 193 games, winning three league titles, three Spanish Super Cups and the Copa del Rey.
‘No brainer’
Despite being in his late thirties, Lewandowski’s continued prolific goalscoring will put him on the radar of plenty of top clubs this summer.
There is also strong interest from beyond Europe, with several Saudi Pro League sides and MLS outfit Chicago Fire all keen to sign him.
But ex-Italy international Rossi, who spent three years at Old Trafford between 2004 and 2007, has urged Man United to consider pursuing him, insisting his presence would benefit young striker Benjamin Sesko.
Speaking to Ozoon ahead of the World Cup, Rossi said: “Robert Lewandowski to Man United? Yeah, why not?”
“Of course, Lewandowski would be an incredible asset for the young players, providing his experience and big-game knowledge.
“With Benjamin Sesko being a young, growing player, having someone like Lewandowski on the team would only benefit him.
“It’s a no-brainer. He has a huge resume and on a short-term deal, it’s a win-win.”
Sesko joined Man United from RB Leipzig last summer in a £74m deal and initially struggled to make his mark in the Premier League.
But the Slovenian found his feet in the second half of the season, ultimately finishing the campaign with 11 league goals.
It’s fair to say Lewandowski could teach him a thing or two about the art of goalscoring, having fired in over 650 goals in his illustrious career.
Last season, the Pole scored 14 goals in 31 league games for Barcelona as they tasted LaLiga glory, despite starting on just 17 occasions.
In fact, Rossi isn’t the only ex-United man to highlight Lewandowski as a potential mentor figure for Sesko, with Red Devils legend Rio Ferdinand making a similar argument recently.
After Lewandowski announced his departure from Barcelona, Ferdinand reacted on social media: “What a guy, what a player!!
“Experienced option next season in UCL & help with development of Sesko?”
Having secured a third-place Premier League finish and a return to the Champions League, United will be looking to strengthen in the summer as they aim to compete on all fronts under newly-appointed permanent boss Michael Carrick.
Lewandowski’s Barcelona career
In four years at Barcelona, Lewandowski fired in a staggering 120 goals and provided a further 24 assists.
83 of his goals came in LaLiga, with his best tally coming last term as he netted 27 times in 34 league games.
In the Champions League, Lewandowski scored 23 goals in 38 appearances, reaching the 100-goal milestone in the competition whilst playing for the club.
As for trophies, the Polish superstar has collected another seven during his stint in Catalonia, taking his over career haul to a huge 33, having won a huge 10 Bundesliga titles with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern respectively.
