Eamonn Walker is headed back to the Windy City.
The actor will reprise his Chicago Fire role as Deputy Commissioner Wallace Boden in the Wednesday, April 16 episode, TVLine has learned.
Walker was last seen in the Season 12 finale, when Boden took on a higher position within the Chicago Fire Department ranks — but one that would still allow for him to occasionally appear on the show. No doubt fans were hoping that Walker would resurface earlier in the season, but they’ll have to wait until Episode 18, in which Boden is tasked by Commissioner Grissom (played by Gary Cole) to run a post-incident analysis following a house fire that collapsed with a firefighter inside.
“We’re so excited to have our beloved Chief Boden back, and the episode, titled ‘Post-Mortem,’ is a thrill ride unlike any we’ve done before,” showrunner Andrea Newman said in a statement. “Told with flashbacks and unique POVs, Chief Boden leads our team on a search to discover the how, who, and why of a fierce firefight that ended in disaster.”
Newman described the hour to TVLine as “a fantastic episode that will showcase our beloved Boden.”
An original cast member on the NBC drama, Walker exited the series in the Season 12 finale as Boden said an emotional goodbye to the Firehouse 51 crew and moved on to become Deputy Commissioner. Before he left, Boden told Herrmann (David Eigenberg) that he wants him to eventually take over as 51’s chief. In the meantime, Chief Dom Pascal (new series regular Dermot Mulroney) has been filling the role.
Ahead of the current 13th season, Newman told TVLine that the door was open for Walker’s return.
“[Boden is] still around. He’s still part of the world of Chicago Fire and always will be, in our minds,” Newman said.
Chicago Fire airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC.
