Recently, speculation regarding the longevity of Daredevil: Born Again swirled after its star Charlie Cox referred to its upcoming sophomore outing as “the final season.” The Disney+ series serves as a continuation of the 2015 Netflix series Daredevil, which starred Cox alongside Vincent D’Onofrio. This revival was generally well-received by fans and critics, making Cox’s statement all the more surprising.
However, in a recent interview with ComicBookMovie.com, Cox debunked his previous statements. Asked point-blank if the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, he bluntly stated “no,” before adding “I do not think so.” When prompted by the interviewer suggesting Marvel needs to put him in another Spider-Man film, Cox replied, “exactly, exactly.”

Cox isn’t the only Daredevil: Born Again cast member who spoke about the show’s future following his comments. D’Onofrio, who plays Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, addressed the speculation, saying that there’s a “good chance there will be a third.”
The actor then elaborated: “I believe [Cox] meant the last season we actually shot, meaning the second season. Yet he used the term final season, so it’s a bit confusing.” Contrary to this, D’Onofrio revealed that the stars have talked about the series’ future, and they “both agree there's a very good chance for a third season.”
This is hardly a surprise—Marvel Studios' Head of Streaming, Brad Winderbaum, previously discussed the series’ future before its first season even debuted. The executive confirmed that “one-hundred percent it's a multi-season show,” before adding that he didn’t “know how many seasons it'll run.”

With all of this further context in mind, it’s clear that Cox likely misspoke. Speaking at Galaxy Con, he said the phrase “final season” when discussing the upcoming second season and how it does something different from the comics. As D’Onofrio stated, he seemed to be indicating the most recent season they filmed.
Given the positive critical reception of Daredevil: Born Again and the rest of the Netflix Marvel characters being integrated into the MCU, it would be a shock if the series doesn’t make it to a third season. However, its streaming numbers were not particularly strong, leaving some room for doubt.
Nonetheless, Daredevil and Kingpin, especially Cox and D'Onofrio's versions, are fan-favorite characters, which is why they were brought back in the first place. Marvel likely intends to keep Daredevil: Born Again going as long as it remains lucrative and of interest to fans, but the actors could continue the characters in another MCU production if its second season is its last.
