Marvel is crowning a new Sorcerer Supreme, as a new hero takes on the powers and responsibilities of Doctor Strange. Spinning out of One World Under Doom, the villainous Doctor Doom is about to lose the title he stole from Doctor Strange. However, with Strange trapped in Asgard, a new Marvel hero is taking the title, and SDCC just teased who it will be.
As revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, the Marvel Universe is heading for a new Sorcerer Supreme. At the Marvel Comics: Next Big Thing Panel, Ryan North revealed the solicit information for One World Under Doom #9, bringing the epic event to an end. However, fans were also shown a teaser from Devmalya Pramanik, confirming that Doom's title is about to pass to one of a group of several iconic heroes.

Pramanik's art shows Scarlet Witch, Agatha Harkness, Madelyne Pryor, Magik, Valeria Richards, Shang-Chi, Captain Marvel, Storm, Gambit and Sister Grimm wearing Doctor Strange's iconic cloak and Eye of Agamotto. It seems that one of these heroes will be taking Doctor Strange's place as Marvel's next Sorcerer Supreme.

Several of These Heroes Could Legitimately Claim the Title

During the Blood Hunt event, Doctor Doom tricked Doctor Strange into handing over his mystic title and power. Since then, Doom has used his magical might to take over the planet, becoming the tyrannical ruler of Earth. One World Under Doom has seen Marvel's heroes battling against Doom, and his eventual defeat will seemingly put the title up for grabs.
Marvel has offered up a genius collection of candidates. Figures like Scarlet Witch, Magik, Agatha Harkness and Nico Minoru are all skilled sorcerers, however others are less expected. Gambit and Storm may seem like unusual picks, but Storm has spent the last few years unlocking her mystical potential, while Gambit has been wielding an alternate Eye of Agamotto after stealing it from a dragon. Likewise, Captain Marvel and Shang-Chi have had some recent brushes with magic, and while Valeria is a scientific genius, she's also the person Doom would likely choose to pass his power to if he can't keep it for himself.
Becoming Sorcerer Supreme is a huge change, and even if one of these characters only holds the title briefly, it will still be a lasting part of their lore with huge ramifications. So far, the most likely candidate appears to be Agatha Harkness, who has been on a quest to master Chaos Magic. While Agatha is our #1 pick at this point, it would be believable for any of these characters to end up with the title, making SDCC's tease of Doctor Strange's successor as compelling as it is unpredictable.
