With the NCIS: Origins Season 1 finale almost here, fans will finally find out how and why Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) becomes who he is in the future (later played by Mark Harmon), which, of course, involves Agent Lala Dominguez (Mariel Molino). Titled “Cecilia” after Molino’s character, the episode is expected to air on CBS on Monday, April 28, and will see Gibbs face a reckoning when the murder of Pedro Hernandez (the drug dealer he secretly assassinated for murdering his family) is unearthed. At the same time, when the agent needs his team most, the loyalty of one is brought into question.
While fans will have to wait until next Monday to find out whose loyalty will be questioned, Molino’s recent chat with TV Insider hints at a new side of her character in the NCIS: Origins finale. Plus, since the episode is basically Lala-themed, much like most of the season, many are dying to know if there will finally be an explicit answer as to why the procedural is “the story of her,” as Gibbs said in the premiere episode. Teasing the finale, the actress said:
“The viewer will find out something so integral to who Gibbs becomes — that future Gibbs, who we saw and loved on NCIS — that even he does not know. Lala does something in the finale that he doesn’t know she did. It is the reason that Gibbs becomes who he becomes years later. It’s a question that is brought up in later seasons of NCIS that Gibbs himself doesn’t know the answer to.”
What’s Coming in the Explosive ‘NCIS: Origins’ Season 1 Finale?
The trouble for Gibbs in the action drama begins with the arrival of Lala’s friend, military police investigator Lara Macy (Claire Berger), who turns up to investigate suspicions about Hernandez. Lara is an NCIS mothership character who has crossed paths with Lala at crime scenes, with the duo watching each other’s backs. They have also encountered situations where they’re treated differently because they’re women.
Speaking of the investigation, Lala already knows Gibbs is responsible for Hernandez’s death, which she figured out earlier this season while trying to track down the killer herself. At the time, she secretly confronted Gibbs, but later he revealed his vulnerable side to her, which ultimately led her to realize how much she “loves, loves, loves, loves” him. Now, with her friend’s involvement, she’s conflicted between her loyalty to Gibbs and the team and also Lara’s investigation.
