NCIS: Origins finishes its successful freshman run next Monday, April 28. The recent past becomes the primary focus as the death of Pedro Hernandez raises questions. "When the murder of Pedro Hernandez is unearthed, Gibbs (Austin Stowell) faces a reckoning. But when he needs his team most, the loyalty of one is brought into question," teases the logline for NCIS: Origins Season 1, Episode 18, "Cecilia." Everyone is forced to confront the secrets they kept as the agency sends a military investigator to suss out the details. CBS released a sneak peek of the episode, previewing the explosive events in the finale as some long-running questions get answers.
Three people can't keep a secret, and when that secret involves the murder of a famous cartel leader, it's not much of a secret. At some point, someone will come seeking answers, and the best you can hope for is that they never get them. In the video below, Gibbs is forced to confront what might happen if his secret came out. "We knew what you had done and kept quiet," Franks (Kyle Schmid) says. Will he continue keeping quiet? Meanwhile, Lala (Mariel Molino) is overcome with emotions as she confronts Franks. But the highlight is a standoff between NIS and cartel members. Did they figure out who killed their boss? The cartel is not known for being understanding, so this is a real problem. And even if the team survives, there is an official investigation to contend with.
'NCIS: Origins' Season 1 Was a Success in Many Ways
The prequel series is an atypical spinoff of the robust NCIS franchise. Instead of following a different team in a different location, NCIS: Origins follows one of the show's most beloved characters in his early days in the agency. This difference has made it stand out, earning 88% on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the highest score of any NCIS show. Season 1 has been averaging 9 million viewers, marking a growth from the now-cancelled NCIS: Hawai'i. It comes as no surprise that the show will return for Season 2 in the upcoming TV season, with executive producers David J. North, Gina Lucita Monreal, Mark Harmon, and Sean Harmon set to return alongside the main cast members. Tune in to CBS next Monday at 10 p.m. to witness the epic conclusion of the first season. "Cecilia" was written by Lucita Monreal and directed by Niels Arden Oplev.
