NCIS showrunner Steven D. Binder has defended Torres actor Wilmer Valderrama and his tease of a heartbreaking finale death for season 22. NCIS season 22 ended with a shocking death, but it was not one of the core main characters, as many believed Valderrama was teasing it would be. In the end, it was Alden Parker's father, Roman who died, with his murder being orchestrated by Carla Marino, after she had formed an uneasy alliance with the team, ostensibly in a bid to bring down Nexus.
Per TV Line, Binder came out to defend the actor, claiming that the shocking death of Parker's father, was certainly Earth-shattering, for the team. He talks about how the demise is heartbreaking for the MCRT leader, and expands by touching on Roman's death coming at the hands of Parker's nemesis, Kansas City mob queen Carla Marino. He states that this is the angle Valderrama was likely referring to when he made his statement last week. Check out Binder's comments below:
TVLINE | Talk to me about Wilmer’s talking points for his press tour last week, because he said the death in the season finale would be “somebody very close to us“; he said it would be “really heartbreaking“; and he said it would be “earth-shattering.”
Well, clearly, Wilmer has become more attached to Parker’s father than you have. I think that he, to be more precise, meant it would be “earth-shattering” for one of our team members.
TVLINE | Absolutely.
I think that’s where he was going with that, and that is what it is for Parker. His father’s been murdered by his long-time nemesis– possibly something more, the way [he and Carla] keep looking at each other….
What This Means For NCIS Season 23
The Season Is Bound To Be A Dark, Gritty Affair
There is also the issue of Parker's mother's death certificate being a little off, which is also something that could be touched upon next season. But most likely, front and center will be Parker's personal vendetta against Carla, and what she plans to do with the nuclear materials Nexus has. It is bound to be a fraught and deeply personal season that takes Parker's story to some dark and uncomfortable places.
