Tom Selleck has shared what he will be working on next following his 14-season stint in Blue Bloods.
After more than a decade of CBS fans falling in love with the complicated police family the Reagans, it was time to leave the series behind for good. Blue Bloods ended in December 2024.
Selleck, who portrayed Frank, the head of the Reagan family, admitted that he was “frustrated” by the cancellation, commenting to TV Insider: “I’m not going to turn into a bitter old guy saying, ‘Get off my lawn!’
"I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe.
“My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go. So, how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out.”
Despite his disappointment in Blue Bloods being axed, Selleck is already working on his first project away from the show.
According to the 80-year-old’s IMDb page, he is currently working on an “Untitled Jesse Stone project,” which is in development and will see him star once again as the titular character.
Since 2005, Selleck has been bringing author Robert B Parker’s books to life as CBS TV movies, focussing on the troubled former LA detective who becomes the police chief in Paradise, Massachusetts.
This upcoming film will be the 10th Jesse Stone movie to be adapted from Parker’s novel series, although it is not yet clear which book it will be based on.
With the project still in development, it may not come out until late 2025 at the earliest.
Selleck isn’t the only one hard at work following Blue Bloods’ ending, but his former co-star Donnie Wahlberg is staying a lot closer to home.
Wahlberg, who was behind Frank’s son Danny Reagan, will reprise his role as the fiery detective in the Blue Bloods spin-off Boston Blue.
The series will see Danny move from the NYPD in New York City to the Boston Police Department, where he will be partnered with a “detective from a prominent Boston law enforcement family.”
Boston Blue is expected to follow the head-scratching cases he will be dealing with at work and his personal life and how he adjusts to being away from his close-knit family.
So far, an official release date hasn’t been announced, but the show has already been listed as part of the 2025-2026 season.
Blue Bloods is available to watch on CBS.
