Man of Tomorrow will tackle a very new story for Lex Luthor and Superman when they return to the DC Universe in 2027. Following the succesful Superman movie in 2025, the DCU's Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters" is already working on getting the Man of Steel and his nemesis back on the big screen.
During an interview with Variety, James Gunn was asked what he could share about the Man of Tomorrow plot, with filming set to begin this year. Gunn stated, "At its core, it’s about Clark and Lex." He also stressed that "I relate to both of them. I relate to Lex’s ambition and obsession — minus the murder. And I relate to Superman’s belief in people, his Midwestern values. They’re two sides of me."
The Superman continuation was first revealed to be moving forward in September 2025, with the reveal that the title would be Man of Tomorrow. At the time of the announcement, Gunn, David Corenswet, and Nicholas Hoult shared artwork from DC artists with Lex in his Lexosuit.
The Man of Tomorrow movie will bring the two DC rivals together as they take on the villainous Brainiac. Other Superman cast members who are set to return include Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.
On December 20, 2025, Gunn announced that Lars Eidinger was cast as Brainiac, becoming the first actor to ever bring the character to the big screen. Filming is reportedly starting in April and will be the second DC Studios film to go into production this year, joining Matt Reeves' The Batman – Part II.
DC Studios has scheduled Man of Tomorrow to release on July 9, 2027. The next release for the DCU will be Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock, slated to open on June 26.
