Jensen Ackles Teases His Return To This Mega Hit 89% Rotten Tomatoes Crime Drama

Jensen Ackles is ready to spill the tea — kind of. After months of wishing and waiting, hoping that our favorite Tracker guest star will eventually reprise his role in the upcoming third season, the Supernatural alum seems to point towards the incredible likelihood that he’ll be seen again opposite series star, Justin Hartley. While chatting with TV Insider about his new Prime Video crime drama, Countdown, Ackles, who previously appeared on the CBS procedural as Russell, the brother of Hartley’s Colter Shaw, said there’s “probably a good chance” that audiences will see his character make a comeback during the next set of episodes.

For much of his life, Colter believed that it was his brother, Russell, who was responsible for the mysterious death of their father when they were both young men. However, thanks to a huge reveal and cliffhanger in Tracker’s Season 2 finale, Colter learned that this wasn’t the case as he not only came face to face with Otto (Alex Fernandez), the man who pushed his father off the cliff and caused his demise, but also learned that his mother (Wendy Crewson) had something to do with it. “There’s a lot of stuff to uncover there,” Ackles said of the major finale revelation — and he couldn’t be more on the nose. Already attempting to fix the incredibly strained relationship with his mother, this new bit of intel certainly isn’t going to help Colter get any closer to trusting his surviving parent.

Ackles fans are used to seeing the actor in a brotherly role, thanks to his long-running time on The CW’s Supernatural, where he played the older of two demon-hunting siblings. In the same vein, Tracker allows Ackles to step back into that dynamic, this time with Hartley as his younger sibling. It also gave the longtime friends the chance to work together, as Ackles explained:

“I’m playing the older brother of somebody that I know very well, and I get along with very well. I mean, Justin and I have known each other for over 20 years, and we’ve been buds and we’ve never gotten to work together. So it was really fun for us to get on set. But it was also very easy because it’s just hanging out with your buddy and we get to have fun and we get to mix it up. And it’s nice that he’s an executive producer on it so he can be like, ‘Do you like that word? Do you like that line?’ Just change it, whatever you want.’ So it kind gives us a little freedom.”

The first two seasons of Tracker are now streaming on Paramount+.
