Mark Wahlberg has portrayed many iconic characters throughout the years. However, he has surprisingly never been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
During an interview with ET, the actor revealed the shocking reason why he has never entered any of the MCU's massive franchises. He admitted that he felt like he didn't have enough confidence to wear a superhero costume. Although Disney won't be able to convince him to join any of the films in the foreseeable future, he made it clear that he does love the movies, naming Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man as his favorite.
Wahlberg also explained how he was never really asked in the first place, so it wasn't a decision he ever needed to make. He also added that he has never sought out an opportunity to do so either. But if he ever gets offered a role as a hero or a villain, he might change his mind and take on the role in the MCU. Only time will tell if The Fighter actor will appear in a superhero movie somewhere down the line of his impressive career.
While he has never taken on a DC or Marvel role, he has starred in something that could be considered adjacent to the Big Two's film adaptations. Wahlberg has been featured in 2017's Transformers: The Last Knight. Granted, the actor didn't step out in a ridiculous hero costume, nor is it technically a superhero film. It still features a lot of the same themes and is considered by many to be equal to the MCU.
Whether Wahlberg ultimately makes the leap into the superhero genre remains uncertain. However, the door doesn't seem to be entirely closed just yet. For now, the actor appears happy to continue doing what he has been doing for quite some time, choosing more grounded roles instead of capes and masks. Still, with Hollywood constantly adapting comic books, it wouldn’t be impossible for Wahlberg to eventually find a role that could change his stance.
