Matt Smith Shares Glimpse Of His Star Wars Look For Starfighter After Wrapping Filming

By Mark Williams 12/13/2025

Matt Smith revealed his look for the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter film, which will be released in 2027. Disney and Lucasfilm have been focusing on small-screen Star Wars projects in recent years, with the last big-screen outing being The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.

But that's all about to change with the releases of The Mandalorian and Grogu in May 2026 and then Star Wars: Starfighter a year later.

While promoting his new show, The Death of Bunny Munro, on This Morning, Smith showed off the haircut that he sported while filming Star Wars: Starfighter, which he had just wrapped the day prior. His hair is closely shaved on the sides, with bangs that come out to a point over his forehead. "I've got this daft haircut with this funny little bit in the front," Smith explained.

Smith worked alongside the "fabulous" Ryan Gosling, who plays the protagonist in Starfighter, with the Doctor Who alum cast as a villain in a film directed by Stranger Things executive producer Shawn Levy, whom the actor called "fantastic."

He admitted that he couldn't say much about Starfighter without risking going into spoiler territory, but he thinks the film will be "really great," adding, "I think it's got legs."

"I finished a film yesterday, and they had to cut my hair for it. Star Wars. I finished that yesterday. So that’s why I have this daft haircut with this funny little bit in the front."

"Ryan’s in it, who’s just fabulous. And I think it’s really exciting. It’s directed by Shawn Levy, who did Stranger Things who’s just fantastic. And I think it’s going to be really great, actually. I think it’s got legs."

The Rise of Skywalker concluded the Skywalker Saga that spanned the original, prequel, and sequel trilogies that began in 1977 with A New Hope. After 2019, Disney shifted the focus to its streaming service by releasing several live-action Star Wars series, including The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, Ahsoka, The Acolyte, and Skeleton Crew.

On the animation front, The Bad Batch, Visions, Tales, Young Jedi Adventures, and the final season of The Clone Wars were all released over the past six years.

Disney is not abandoning the TV shows, with Star Wars: Ahsoka season 2 on the way after filming throughout 2025. However, the entertainment company is finally bringing some movies after several failed developments.
