Chris O’Donnell, who starred for 14 seasons as G. Callen on NCIS: Los Angeles, is moving to Music City for his next leading role on the Ryan Murphy/ABC spinoff, 9-1-1: Nashville, Deadline reports.
O’Donnell will headline the series as Captain Don Sharpe, who according to the character breakdown, is “a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his beloved son. Don’s a devoted husband and family man but he has his secrets.”
The newest series in the franchise joins the mothership on ABC, where 9-1-1 moved in 2023 following its cancellation at FOX. 9-1-1: Nashville is the third series in the franchise. 9-1-1: Lonestar, the second, which starred Rob Lowe, was canceled by FOX and finished its run after five seasons this February.

According to Deadline, one major reason why the show was located in Music City is because of a large tax credit allegedly offered to the production team. Murphy told Variety that “we hope to get on the air next fall.” So, depending on how quick the turnaround is, the new series in the franchise may make ABC’s fall 2025 schedule. If not, it could be held as a midseason show in 2026.

After wrapping NCIS: Los Angeles in 2023, O’Donnell played Pete Davidson’s agent in the Peacock dramedy Bupkis, making 9-1-1 Nashville his first series regular role since wrapping NCIS: LA.
9-1-1: Nashville will be written and executive produced by Ryan Murphy and Tim Minear, who co-created the 9-1-1 franchise. Also on board is Rashad Raisani, who has some experience with spinoffs, given he was the showrunner of Lone Star. Other executive producers include Brad Falchuk, who co-created 9-1-1 alongside Murphy and Minear, as well as flagship star (and Lone Star EP) Angela Bassett.
