The S.W.A.T. series finale promotional trailer shows the team preparing for one last mission to save Los Angeles. The hit procedural that was formerly canceled and then uncanceled twice by CBS, is set to finally conclude at the end of season 8, promising an explosive and emotionally-charged finale. Shemar Moore's Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson Jr., has been a core part of the S.W.A.T. cast since the show debuted, and is set to lead his team for a final time in the upcoming finale episode.
Via the TV Promos YouTube channel, the promotional trailer sees Hondo addressing his team for the last time, urging them, "Let's go save this city." Interspersed are epic action set pieces, including the SWAT team raiding a location, a car exploding, and a tactical unit firing at something. Check out the official promotional trailer below:
What This Means For the S.W.A.T. Finale
The Show Is Set To Go Out With A Bang
As a series that has always prided itself on its authenticity, as well as explosive action set pieces, the S.W.A.T. ending trailer suggests the finale will seek to conclude the show in the most fitting way possible. Story details of the finale's double episode are scantm but the official briefs for the double-header tease an intense final mission for Hondo and his team. From strong character dynamics to explosive action, and its real-life inspiration, the show looks set to go out with a bang and will likely be fondly remembered by viewers.
Episode 21: "The SWAT team undertakes its final mission when a violent crew of ex-pat Russian mercenaries holds Los Angeles hostage after planting hundreds of hidden explosives across the city in a bid to extort the release of their brutal leader, Dmitri Rykov."
Episode 22: "When an auto carrier truck gets hijacked by a high-speed crew, Hondo encounters a ghost from his past; Gamble is thrust into a personal crisis when her brother becomes tangled in the investigation."
Co-creator Shawn Ryder has a track record of bringing compelling law enforcement dramas to life, with his critically acclaimed show The Shield pre-dating S.W.A.T.. The action and dramatic tension of the show should all be felt in the S.W.A.T. season 8 two-hour finale episode, and while the trailer is careful not to give anything away, there is every chance the show could see a tragic end for one or two characters.
Our Take On S.W.A.T.'s Legacy As A Show
The Popular Procedural Will Be Missed & There Will Be Hopes Of Another Revival
S.W.A.T. had a strong opening few seasons, and, whilst the ratings dipped in later years, the show still managed to attract a strong fanbase. What's more, in Hondo the show provided one of the most complex and engaging characters on network television, and his journey will conclude in typical style with the series finale. There will be hope that a streamer like Netflix could save S.W.A.T. for a third time, but at this stage it feels unlikely. The show has run its course, earned two extra seasons, and can bow out on a high without overstaying its welcome.
