CBS dropped news about the future of S.W.A.T. — and Shemar Moore has some thoughts about it.
Over the last few years, the hit drama has had quite a ride when it comes to staying on the air. After initially getting cancelled after season 6 in May 2023, fans rallied for CBS to renew S.W.A.T. for more seasons. Well, it worked, and the show came back for season 7 in the fall of 2023 and season 8 in the fall of 2024. But it looks like S.W.A.T.'s time on TV may truly come to an end, as CBS announced on March 6, 2025 that the series would end in May after eight seasons.
Shortly after the news broke, Shemar (who stars as Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson) went on Instagram to share his thoughts on S.W.A.T.'s untimely fate. While he acknowledged the show's cancellation "sucks," he still has hope for the show to come back.
"I said I wasn't going to do this, but I can't help it," he stated in a video posted on March 7. "I'm gonna do it because it's who I am. It's how my mama raised me. Own your dignity, tell the truth. She can't stand a liar, so I ain't lying, and I'm telling the truth. S.W.A.T., here we are, season eight, three weeks away from the finale, we are canceled again. It sucks. It’s sad."

“Uncanceled twice, two years in a row, uncanceled, canceled, uncanceled," he added, referencing the previous times S.W.A.T. came back for another season on CBS. "Now I don't know my history, but how many shows get to say that? I'm gonna say none, or I'm gonna say that we're close to one of the none. But we did that. We did that, and we are so proud."
When fans saw the Criminal Minds alum's open message about S.W.A.T.'s fate, they immediately rushed to support him in the comments.
"No!!! Netflix come through, we need more seasons!" one person begged, referencing the streamer already having the show on its site. "No! You all will land in a great show. I am so sorry for your crew and cast mates. Wishing you all the very best!" another penned. "Not the executives breaking babygirls’ hearts all over the nation 🤧," a different follower added.
Despite the difficult news, it seems like Shemar isn't done trying to bring back S.W.A.T. Sharing a screenshot of a Forbes article depicting a potential fan campaign to bring it back, he begged viewers to help reverse the cancelation on Instagram.
"To all our LOYAL SWAT FANS out there making NOISE!!!!" he wrote on March 10. "Thank you for your LOVE and SUPPORT!!!! You’ve kept us going for 8 seasons strong, we came back from the dead TWICE!!!! Three times would make history!!! Thank you for riding with us!!!! 👊🏽💪🏽."
Fingers crossed for Shemar and S.W.A.T.!
