The Boys Prequel: Jensen Ackles’ Vought Rising Adds The Bear Star And More

Amazon Prime Video’s next dark superhero chapter in The Boys universe, Vought Rising, has added four actors as series regulars in an announcement made on August 6 (via Variety). Sherwood star Jorden Myrie, Bel Canto’s Nicolo Pasetti, The Bear’s Ricky Staffieri, and Sense8 famed Brian J. Smith have recently joined the cast.

Vought Rising, a noir-style 1950s prequel to The Boys, will star Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash as a younger version of Stormfront, then known as Clara Vought. While Prime Video is yet to confirm a release date, the series also stars Euphoria’s Elizabeth Posey and Blue Bloods alum Will Hochman in undisclosed roles.

What is Vought Rising About?

The Boys Prequel: Jensen Ackles’ Vought Rising Adds The Bear Star And More

The Boys prequel series, Vought Rising, was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, with Jensen Ackles revealing the new series will be a lurid pulp prequel set in New York City at the dawn of the ‘50s about the humble beginnings of the Vought Corporation (via Entertainment Weekly).

In a press release, following the announcement, Eric Kripe and executive producer Paul Grellong described the upcoming series as follows:

A twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical maneuvers of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought.

Stating that they cannot wait to blow our minds away and trouble our souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V, Vought Rising will explain the foundations of how the world in The Boys came about. The prequel series is the third spinoff project in The Boys universe, the other two being Gen V and The Boys Presents: Diabolical.

So far, no further details have been revealed about any characters or plots, except Ackles and Cash’s parts. While Grellog will also serve as showrunner, he will executive produce alongside Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Ori Marmur, Pavun Shetty, Ken Levin, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, Michaela Starr, and Jim Barnes. Cash and Ackles will also serve as producers.

While a release date for the series has not yet been announced, the upcoming Prime Video series is expected to begin production this month.

Jensen Ackles Teases Reunion With Justin Hartley

The Boys Prequel: Jensen Ackles’ Vought Rising Adds The Bear Star And More

Jensen Ackles seems to have a lot on his plate lately. While the actor has completed filming for The Boys season 5, he will be reprising his role in CBS’s Tracker Season 3. Currently starring in Prime Video’s Countdown, the actor took to social media to promote the series while also teasing his reunion with Justin Hartley.

In the video posted on Instagram, the actor was at the set of the CBS series, with his trailer behind him, the door of which had ‘Russell’ written. Ackles first appeared in the first season of Tracker as Russell Shaw, the older brother of Hartley’s Colter Shaw.

While it hasn’t been revealed how Russell will re-enter the picture in Season 3, given the dynamics of the Shaw family, fans are excited to have the two actors reunite. Meanwhile, Prime Video has yet to announce if Countdown will be renewed for a second season or not.

Well, it is exciting to have Jensen Ackles be a part of all these varied worlds, from the blood-soaked political thriller Vought Rising to the action drama series Tracker. While we aren’t getting a Supernatural revival anytime soon, let us know which of Ackles’ upcoming projects you are most excited about.

Vought Rising currently doesn’t have a release date, but The Boys (Seasons 1-4) can be streamed on Prime Video, as can Countdown. Meanwhile, Tracker is available for streaming on Paramount+.
