Tracker fans are weighing in on the show’s most recent episode titled “The Mercy Seat.” After season 2, episode 16, aired on Sunday, April 13, many left comments on the show’s Instagram page criticizing the “dark” plot.
The episode saw Colter Shaw searching for two missing snowboarders in Montana. But the case wasn’t as straightforward as it seemed when a mysterious man wearing antlers appeared and a religious cult was uncovered as Colter continued to dig for answers. Bobby also returned to the show after missing multiple episodes, assisting Colter in the case.
“Loved that Bobby was back, but this episode was disturbing and completely uncomfortable to watch with my teens,” one person commented on a clip from the episode posted on the show’s official Instagram account. “There was no need for such a dark premise and we will not continue to watch if the story lines are this uncomfortable.”
“Show was way too disturbing don’t need nightmares sorry to say done with my fave show!” another person said.
“This episode was the worst one yet! Why all this dark crazy violent stuff? Not gonna stick around if it stays this way. Please do better , writers!” said another.
“The last 3 episodes have been so dark. Not loving it. Did they get new writers or something??” another person wondered.
“I HATED this episode! Too disturbing. And, it was not the usual format,” someone else penned. “The show is supposed to be about Colters process of TRACKING missing people. Not what the missing person is enduring while missing. If this is the direction the show is going then I’m done. Sad because this has been my favorite of new shows the last couple seasons.”
“This show is becoming too violent for me to watch! Sorry to lose this show, which I used to love!” someone else agreed.
Others drew comparisons to Criminal Minds, agreeing that she show was heading into a darker direction.
“This episode had too much of a Criminal Minds vibe and I stopped watching CM because it was just too freaking creepy and disturbing. The episode had no context. Normally we see him getting a call about a missing person. This started with him already in the snow. What? If this is the new direction of the show, I’m out. And I love this show,” another said.
“Hope Tracker doesn’t do too many of these Criminal Minds type episodes,” someone else agreed.
“If they have another episode like this, I definitely will not be watching,” another commenter wrote.
“I’m with the majority of these comments. Tonight’s episode was disgusting and way too dark. This show was perfect last season! But from the random storyline with no focus on Colter’s family mysteries due to two of the actors getting booked on different series to the increased violence this season… what is going on?!” someone else shared. “Get back to basics (KISS!) and focus on what y’all were doing in season 1. Heck, I don’t even care if you have to recast Colter’s sister and brother at this point. It’d be better than whatever THIS is. I really hope you get renewed for a third season but only if you can turn things around.”
