After he was mysteriously missing for back-to-back episodes, Tracker fans were left wondering: What happened to Bobby?! Rest assured, there’s a reason for his absence and an answer to when he’s coming back.

What happened to Bobby on Tracker?

Bobby Exley — a hacker who assists tracker Colter Shaw on his assignments — has been missing for the past two episodes of Tracker Season 2: Episode 10, “Nightingale” and Episode 11, “Shades of Gray.”

In “Nightingale,” Bobby’s cousin, Randy (played by Chris Lee), explained to Colter that Bobby needed time off to take care of a family issue and that he was stepping in for him to take care of Colter’s technical needs. “Bobby is dealing with some family stuff, but he wanted to make sure he didn’t leave you hanging,” Randy said. “I remember you. You helped me with that case where you hacked into the police server,” Colter responded to Randy, who replied: “Some of my best work. Bobby is dealing with some family stuff but he wanted to make sure he didn’t leave you hanging. And for the record, I am the one who showed him how to jailbreak his phone so you are all good.”

Bobby on Tracker

Bobby was missing again in the following episode, “Shades of Gray.” While Tracker didn’t explain his absence, it’s assumed that Bobby was gone for the same reason. So is Bobby leaving Tracker? The answer is no. CBS confirmed in the midseason trailer for Tracker Season 2 that Bobby will be back in the later half of the season. The trailer showed a scene of Bobby inside his office helping Colter on a new case.

Eric Graise, who has played Bobby since Season 1 of Tracker, also isn’t the only cast member who’s missed a couple episodes in Season 2 to return later. Reenie Greene (played by Fiona Rene) was also missing in “Nightingale.

As for why Graise and Rene have been missing, it’s likely that Tracker wrote them off for a couple of episodes to save costs similar to other primetime shows like ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy and CBS’ FBI and FBI: Most Wanted. Deadline reported in May 2024 that series regulars on FBI and FBI: Most Wanted would have their minimum guaranteed episodes cut by two episodes to save on expenses. The news came a week after Deadline also reported that veteran cast members on Grey’s Anatomy would also have their guaranteed episode counts slashed by three to four in a cost-saving measure.

Bobby and Reenie’s absences in Tracker Season 2 come after series regular Robin Weigert — who played one of Colter’s handlers Teddi Bruin — left following Season 1.

Tracker is available to stream on Paramount Plus.
