The Best Grilled Burger {And Secret Sauce Recipe}

Two BBQ’s in a weekend. Did I mention we love to BBQ? And also I think there is a rule somewhere that you have to have a BBQ on Memorial Day. The hubs said he wanted to grill some burgers, so I wanted to put this one to the test. I know that it is harder for a burger to stay in tact on the grill, so I put down aluminum foil sprayed with some cooking spray to grill the burgers on. Then once they started to get cooked, remove the aluminum foil so that the burgers could get that charbroiled taste. Well the burgers still ended up in pieces. Grrrrr. Once we got the pieces onto the bun, the flavor of the burger was delicious. And the secret sauce is sooooo good.

What is the secret sauce

This sauce is something that everyone needs in their life. It is just that good. And the best thing about it is it’s extremely simple. This mixture consists of some of your normal go to dips and combines them together to make a unique flavor that you just won’t be able to get enough of.

What do you need to make the best burger patty

There are few things in this world that can top a perfectly good burger patty. And this is one of those recipes that is at the top of the list. Perfect for your bbqs, weeknight dinners, or even lunch, these burgers are quick to make and filled with flavor.

The savory taste of a juicy burger is made with these ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef- I used 85/15- you want a fattier meat to make a juicier burger!
  • Monterey jack cheese- I prefer to use this, if you have something else on hand or like, this is a simple substitution
  • BBQ sauce- Helps create that savory flavor
  • Salt- Just to taste
  • Cracked black pepper- Also just to taste
  • Onion powder- Helps give a bit of a smoky flavor

How to Make the Best Burger Patty

This is definitely a great go-to recipe when you are in charge of hosting the next family bbq. Easy to throw together especially if needing to make plenty to feed everyone!

  1. Combine the ground beef, grated cheese, bbq sauce, and seasonings.
  2. Shape patties that are about 1 inch thick. With the 1 pound of ground beef I made 5 large patties.
  3. Turn the grill up to high and let it get hot.
  4. Reduce heat to medium-high and place the burgers on the grill. Allow this side of the patty to cook for about 4-6 minutes, but make sure it doesn’t burn. Then flip the burger over and cook until done.

What to serve with the best burger and secret sauce:

When it comes to completing this meal, it is all in the toppings! There are so many different options you have to garnish your burger with. You have all your veggies, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, pickles, avocado, cheese and more.

As far as sides go there are a variety of things that pair well with a burger. You have the choice of fries, chips, salad, green or potato, a fruit salad, fresh veggies, and whatever else you love having at your bbqs!

What are some tips and tricks for making the best burger

There are so many different ways one can go about cooking their burger. This recipe is all about grilling them at your bbq so you can get that smokey charbroiled taste. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind when you are preparing your burgers for your next meal!

  • Make sure that you prepare your toppings before cooking the burgers so they are all ready to go as soon as the burgers come off the grill
  • Remembering to shape your patties about 1” wider that the buns will help because once they are on the grill they will shrink.
  • Do not overwork the meat
  • It helps if you make an indentation in the center of the patty to prevent it from rising and plumping up right in the middle.
  • Seasoning the burgers with salt and pepper right before you place them on the grill helps toughen the meat
  • When you place the patties on the grill, let them sear well and brown(takes about 3-5 mins) before you flip them and do not press down on the burger.

So at this point you may be wondering what is Za’atar seasoning? It is a blend of savory, nutty, and earthy spices that usually includes oregano, thyme, marjoram, and sumac. There are different blends of Za’atar seasoning based on where you are eating it. Kind of like curry the ingredients can change based on the area it’s made in. I have a link to the Za’atar seasoning blend in the recipe box below too if you want to make it, or you can pick it up from the store.

Tips for Grilling Chicken

Here are a few simple ways to make yourself the master of the grill! Once your friends and family get a bite of your grilled Za’atar chicken, they’ll be hooked. It’s hard not to be when they’re so juicy and flavorful.

  • Use a Thermometer: This step is super important so that your chicken doesn’t dry out on the grill. Use a meat thermometer to check the temperature of your chicken. You can take them off the grill when the temperature inside reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit. If you cook them any more than that, they may dry out.
  • Let Rest: The key to juicy grilled Za’atar chicken is letting it rest for a minute or two after you pull it off the grill. This allows all of the tasty juices to reabsorb, giving you chicken breast that will melt in your mouth! If you cut into them too soon after grilling, those juices may be released instead of absorbing back into the meat.
  • Dripping: If you have seasoning and oil dripping off of your chicken, it will make the flames touch the meat and that’s where the black burned part comes from. If you don’t want crispy crunchy parts on your chicken, make sure that your seasoning is all over your chicken, but not dripping off.

Storing Leftovers

Who doesn’t wan’t grilled Za’atar chicken for leftovers? This recipe makes enough to serve eight people, so if you need to save your leftovers here is how.

In the Refrigerator: Store your cooled chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

I love a simple chicken dinner! But sometimes chicken can taste boring when you are always making it the same way. Here are some recipes that will give you great ideas to keep your chicken tasting unique and juicy!
