Warner Bros. is officially turning back the hands of time to celebrate the art of the “singular filmmaker,” and the internet is already buzzing over their latest move!
On Tuesday at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the studio finally pulled back the curtain on its long-rumored specialty film division. The verdict? It’s called Warner Bros. Clockwork, and it is already making major waves in the industry.
To kick things off with a bang, Clockwork announced its very first acquisition: Ti Amo!, the highly anticipated new project from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Sean Baker.
If that name sounds familiar, it’s because Baker has been the talk of Hollywood recently following his massive success with the Oscar and Palme d’Or winner Anora. Now, he’s bringing his unique vision to the Warner Bros. family, and fans on X (formerly Twitter) are calling it a “total game-changer” for indie cinema.
Baker isn’t just directing; the multi-hyphenate artist will also write, edit, cast, and produce the film. He is reteaming with his trusted Anora producers, Alex Coco and Samantha Quan, ensuring that the magic that captured hearts last awards season is back in full force.
“Sean Baker is an artist who embodies everything we believe in at Clockwork, and Ti Amo! will be another gift to cinema,” said Christian Parkes, the film executive leading the new label. Parkes even added a playful nod to Baker’s aesthetic, noting, “Plus, his poster game is on point.”
The news has sent TikTok’s film community into a tailspin, with creators already theorizing about the plot of Ti Amo! and praising Warner Bros. for leaning back into “provocative and culturally resonant” storytelling.
Clockwork isn’t just about new hits, though. The label, which reports to Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, will also focus on developing in-house features and—in a move that has cinephiles cheering—the restoration of classic Warner Bros. films for worldwide theatrical release.
As for Ti Amo!, Warner Bros. Clockwork has secured the global distribution rights (excluding France) and is planning a massive worldwide theatrical rollout in .
While we still have a bit of a wait before we see Baker’s latest masterpiece on the big screen, the launch of Clockwork proves that Warner Bros. is serious about giving “fearless” filmmakers a permanent home.
In a landscape dominated by blockbusters, this new focus on “singular” voices is exactly what moviegoers have been asking for. We’ll be keeping our eyes on the clock for this one!
