Move over, courtroom dramas—there’s a new psychological thriller in town, and it’s trading legal pads for metal pipes.
The internet is losing it after Neon unveiled the first footage of A Place In Hell at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Tuesday. The film stars four-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams and Normal People breakout Daisy Edgar-Jones in a high-stakes battle of wits that looks like it’s going to be the talk of the winter.
The buzz started the moment the trailer flickered onto the screen at Caesars Palace. The story, written and directed by Chloe Domont (the mastermind behind the hit Fair Play), follows two powerhouse lawyers who quickly realize there isn’t enough room at the top for both of them.
In the clip that has everyone on X (formerly Twitter) talking, Edgar-Jones’ character reaches her breaking point in the most cinematic way possible.
Griping a metal pipe and looking ready for war, the younger lawyer tells Williams’ seasoned pro: “I’m not just going to replace you… I am going to destroy your f—king life.”
As if that wasn’t enough to send shivers down your spine, she adds the ultimate ultimatum: “It’s you or me.”
Fans were quick to weigh in on the pairing, with many TikTok creators already calling it the “performance face-off of the year.” One fan wrote, “Michelle Williams in a cutthroat lawyer role? Say no more. But Daisy with a pipe? I am seated!”
The plot centers on Williams as a ruthless criminal defense attorney who is just moments away from making partner. Her life is turned upside down when Edgar-Jones is brought in as her potential replacement.
While the rivalry starts in the office, it quickly escalates into a dangerous battle for control as they are forced to work together on one final, complicated case.
Neon has officially set a Christmas Day release for the film, making it the perfect (if slightly terrifying) holiday treat for thriller fans.
But A Place In Hell wasn’t the only thing Neon brought to the desert. The studio also teased its massive upcoming slate, including the sci-fi thriller Hope from director Na Hong-jin.
That film features a staggering international cast, including Alicia Vikander, Michael Fassbender, Taylor Russell, and Squid Game star Hoyeon. The plot involves a remote village near the DMZ and a mysterious tiger—adding to the “what did I just watch?” excitement of the day.
The studio also offered glimpses of Adam Scott in the horror films Hokum and Leviticus, plus Boots Riley’s highly anticipated fashion caper I Love Boosters.
Still, it’s the image of Daisy Edgar-Jones and Michelle Williams facing off that has social media in a chokehold. Between the intense dialogue and the promise of a “dangerous extreme,” December can’t come soon enough.
Who are you rooting for in this legal showdown? One thing is for sure: in A Place In Hell, nobody is playing by the rules.
