The Fremen have officially taken over Las Vegas!
In what is easily the most talked-about moment of CinemaCon , Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Jason Momoa stormed the stage alongside visionary director Denis Villeneuve to give fans a first glimpse at the epic conclusion of the trilogy: Dune: Part Three.
The presentation started with a literal bang as an army of Fremen descended from the rafters on wires, chanting as Villeneuve joked that the warriors were simply his “entourage.” But the mood shifted from playful to pulse-pounding once the first seven minutes of the film hit the screen.
The footage reveals a stark departure from the desert dunes we know. Fans on X (formerly Twitter) are already buzzing about the “haunting” opening sequence, which features Fremen ships sailing through dark, foggy skies onto a planet where—wait for it—it’s actually raining.
The clip shows a brutal battle involving flying lasers and high-stakes combat, but it’s the character drama that has the internet in a chokehold. The preview confirms a massive -year time jump, and according to Villeneuve, the “youthful outlook” of our favorite heroes is officially a thing of the past.
“It’s a very different world,” Villeneuve explained to the crowd. “Paul’s nightmares became reality, and he’s left to grapple with the consequences of his decisions.”
Timothée Chalamet, looking every bit the leading man, opened up about the dark turn his character, Paul Atreides, has taken. Paul has transitioned from a reluctant hero to what Chalamet calls the “all-powerful dark emperor of the universe.”
“Paul has become his worst vision,” Chalamet shared. “He’s struggling to figure out how to protect those he loves while becoming [this] destroyer.”
Perhaps the most heartbreaking update came from Zendaya, who teased that the central romance between Chani and Paul has seen better days. While Villeneuve promised that their bond remains the “heartbeat” of the film, he warned it is now a “broken love story.”
“The years don’t seem to have been kind to anyone in Dune,” Zendaya added, noting that her character is in a “very different place” after nearly two decades of war.
In a twist that had TikTok creators immediately hitting ‘record,’ Jason Momoa also appeared on stage to confirm his return as Duncan Idaho. Despite his character’s death in the first film, he’s back thanks to “Ghola” cloning technology—and he doesn’t seem happy with his old friend. In the footage, Duncan tells Paul he is “way beyond redemption.”
As the presentation wrapped, the cast became visibly emotional. Having worked on the franchise for a decade, the bond between the actors is palpable. Chalamet even took a moment to honor his director, calling Villeneuve “the real Paul Atreides.”
Villeneuve promised that this final installment—set to hit theaters on December —will be the most “action-packed, intense, and emotional” one yet.
If the standing ovation at CinemaCon is any indicator, fans better start emotionally preparing themselves now. The era of the Dark Emperor is almost here.
